Her mother warns her that Jason killed at least three people outside of the story in real life, when she once used him as a character in one of her books and that the killing only stopped after every single book was removed from the stores and burned.
As Susan doesn’t believe that something like this is possible and thinks that her mother is either messing with her head or jealous of her success as an author, she disregards the warning and emails the manuscript to her publisher.
This has disasterous results, for the following morning a man resembling Jason comes into her house when her mother is visiting her and beats her mother over the head with an iron bar, Then he leaves, but not before he has grined at Susan and revealed his gold tooth, which is his tell.
